Understanding the Crucifixion of Christ

Leap of Faith: Daily Lessons About Jesus Christ

Chapter: The Crucifixion of Jesus (Pages 71-72)

Matthew 18:7

“Woe unto the world because of offences (stumbling blocks)! for it must needs that offense come; but woe to that man by whom the offense (stumbling block) cometh!”

Galatians 5:11 says, “But I, brethren, if I still preach circumcision, why am I still persecuted? Then the stumbling block of the cross has been abolished” (emphasis added).

Stumbling block: a trap-stick; occasion to fall (of stumbling), offence, thing that offends, stumbling block. Noun meaning the trigger of a trap on which the bait is placed, and which, when touched by the animal, springs and causes it to close causing entrapment. In the New Testament, stumbling block, offence, only figuratively in a moral sense. 1) Generally as a cause of stumbling, falling ruin, morally and spiritually. Spoken of Christ as the rock of stumbling; 2) as a cause of offence and indignation; 3) as a cause or occasion of sinning or of falling away from the truth (Net Bible.org).

Key Note; Now, a better way to understand the stumbling block of the cross mentioned in the Bible is to recognize that in a world full of sin and corruption, many traps would be set in place for Jesus to be crucified…The world would want the son of man to fall in order that prophecy would not be fulfilled…This is the nature of the world without God…Basically, by any and all means necessary to destroy or diminish the existence of Jesus Christ in our modern world…This also helps us to understand and grasp a more in depth picture of the crucifixion of Jesus…

Let this be clear, the crucifixion of Jesus Christ was worded and exemplified in a symbolic manner so that we could understand His suffering. He was crucified and has the scars to show for it. But the true crucifixion goes much further beyond a death on the cross. Remember, Jesus is a living sacrifice to whom we cast all of our problems and concerns. The sin of the world is laid upon His shoulders. Do you understand that the crucifixion is symbolic in nature in order for us to understand what He goes through each and every day, due to the world’s rebellion to God…He still, being hated and despised for the Truth that he communicates, fights to save lives… The more sin, the more Christ will suffer… But, remember there is a timeline on his suffering…God has it all planned…Has time run out and is judgment upon the world? The simple truth is that the world has a choice. The world can either seek God and attempt to correct their lives, or Christ will intervene and judge the world…Is he already judging?

Now, the reality is that the crucifixion of Jesus is not to be taken advantage of or abused. It is to be held at the highest regard. It is the most important way that we understand forgiveness. By believing in Christ we do not want to crucify Him; we want to help Him and bear our own cross. You are to never intend to make Christ suffer. You are responsible for helping Him live. You are responsible for establishing His kingdom. Do you want Christ to suffer? Do you believe, as Islam teaches, that it is all about mercy and that you can act and do what you please without obeying the teachings of Jesus Christ and His Father’s commandments?

Well, this is a wake-up call. You are responsible for helping save Christ and helping Him live. Do not attempt to pierce Him or to kill Him. That is what many people are doing every day. He feels the burden. He knows the pain. He is the sacrifice for the sin of the world.

You are to study the Word and abide by the Word of God. You are not to make the crucifixion a stumbling block that allows you to do whatever you want or fall away from God… You must follow God’s law. You must live in the spirit and allow God to guide you. Put away the “old self ” and put on the “new self.”

This is all that God asks. It is God’s command that you quit having to use Christ as an excuse. How long do you think that will last? You must establish yourself with God and carry your own cross, as Christ did for us.

Christ has felt the antagonizing, persecution, criticism, degrading, mocking, judging, and sheer desire of the world for his execution. Many people live their lives as a statement to execute Christ, as sons of destruction against God… They hate what He stands for and everything pure about Him. Satan and his army continue to act, having been told to stop, and they will, mark my words, be forever punished for their actions. God does not miss a thing. Quit trying to remove Christ from the world and to justify your actions. Bear your own cross. Help carry the weight, and stand up for God.

He looks for us to help. Then, in return, he rewards us with Eternal Life…
