The Sword of the Spirit: The Sound of Many Waters
Chapter: Batman and Robin (Pages 75-76)
Matthew 10:16 “Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves; therefore be shrewd as serpents, and innocent as doves.”
Genesis 3:1 “Now there serpent was more crafty than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, Indeed, has God said, ‘You shall not eat from any tree of the garden’?”
By reviewing these two pieces of wisdom, we are able to gain insight as to how we are to win the battle of good and evil. Outsmart your enemy, and be able to adapt into a way of thinking that is always one step ahead of the traps or temptation.
By studying the Living Word of God we are brought into a new understanding of how to survive in this world of corruption, deceit, and temptation. The catch is to pick up on the craftiness of the serpents of the world, and to recognize it as God allows you to see clearly.
Over the course of my life I have learned that once we have become enlightened by seeking out God through His Word we are able to recognize our enemy.
A brilliant comparison is that of the “Dark Knight” or Batman the movie. Batman is elusive to His enemy and thinks ahead, anticipating what is to come. Now, by Batman teaming up with Robin his power is increased significantly in order to battle the forces of evil. We must understand that combining forces is essential to winning the battle. Batman and Robin are both fighting a war against extreme evil, but rely on one another to think ahead, and to educate each another on the methods of evil in a world overcome by darkness.
Romans 16:17-18 “Now I urge you, brethren, keep your eye on those who cause dissensions and hindrances contrary to the teaching which you learned, and turn away from them. For such men are slaves, not of our Lord Christ, but of their own appetites; and by their smooth and flattering speech they deceive the hearts of the unsuspecting.”
Suppose Jesus comes to us as a “Dark Knight” in order to help the world to recognize the face of evil. The reality is that much of wealth and power has been abused by the rulers, principalities, and powers to control as opposed to building businesses and educational programs that allow for our younger generations to become aware of the powers of darkness and the methodology of serpents.
Another comparison to be made concerning overcoming the evil of the world is found in the union or marriage of the Lamb.
Revelation 19:8 “And it was given to her to clothe herself in fine linen, bright and clean; for the righteous acts of the saints.”
The bride, or church, of the Lamb is an army of those who have chosen to seek truth. The saints are those that stand firm and adhere to the direction of Matthew 10:16.
The simple truth to be known is that God’s power and truth is supreme to that of man. Man and evil are subtle and sly, but God protects those whom He loves. He trains and builds up those who seek Him, in order that they may be enlightened to His degree.
Ephesians 6:11 “Put on the full armor of God, that you may be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil.”
Jesus teaches us to put on this armor, just as Batman and Robin, in order to keep ourselves aware and guarded against the powers of darkness. By recognizing the battle, we are able to overcome by joining forces, just as the serpents have attempted to do so. Discovering the power that is increased by the combination of the forces that are of God, is what God demands.
Unite and win.
